Business Profile: Amiri Farms

When we began searching for businesses to support with our financial system, there was no better family company than the Amiri Farms. What initially started as a self-sustaining cashew farm that produced enough to provide for neighbors in the community has now grown to a regional producer of cashews.

When I met the Amiri family, they greeted me at their door with hugs and smiles. They invited me into their home and gave me a variety of their cashew nuts to try (which were fresh and delicious), and toured me around the farm. It was by no means large, and Maito, the 38 year-old father explained to me the rigorous work he does every day. Gzifa, the mother, also explained the gathering and roasting process, and although she did have more time for other activities the family was always busy with the farm. Their two children 8 year old Fara, and 6 year old Obi both helped daily within the farm.

We then offered them the opportunity to take on a loan to expand the property and improve the facilities. What they have done though is beyond belief!

I returned to the farm one month after the distribution of the loan to find a completely new business. They expanded enough to serve ten local communities, and Maito took the responsibility to hire a completely new staff of local community members. The family continues to be happy, and the kids have been growing and sharing in the school experience.

We couldn't be happier to work with a such a wonderful business and family, and we thank the Amiri farms for the work they have done. Let's hope for many more successful years!
